Introducing the New Yamaha GCB Grand Piano

Discover the new Yamaha GCB PE Grand Piano, the latest addition to Yamaha’s acclaimed GC Series and an exciting new entry point into Japanese-made Yamaha grand piano ownership. Measuring just 151cm (5ft) in length, the GCB combines a beautifully compact design with the rich resonance, responsive touch and expressive performance expected from a genuine Yamaha acoustic grand piano.

Developed using the design philosophy of Yamaha’s GC Series and the heritage of its renowned C Series, the new GCB introduces significant acoustic and mechanical refinements, including Yamaha’s innovative Tone Collector, thicker inner rim laminations, a responsive C1X-type action and a practical sliding music desk.

Manufactured at Yamaha’s flagship piano factory in Kakegawa, Japan, alongside the prestigious GC and CX Series, the GCB represents an exciting evolution of the compact grand piano.

Finished in elegant Polished Ebony, the Yamaha GCB PE is an outstanding choice for pianists seeking authentic grand piano performance without requiring the space of a larger instrument.

A New Addition to Yamaha’s GC Series

The Yamaha GCB marks an important development in Yamaha’s acoustic grand piano range.

As the smallest member of the GC Series, it brings the musical qualities and design heritage of Yamaha’s larger grand pianos into a more accessible format.

Its design draws upon the acclaimed C Series, a family of instruments trusted by pianists around the world for generations.

Yamaha has applied this experience to create a compact grand piano with impressive tonal depth, excellent responsiveness and the expressive capabilities required by developing and experienced pianists alike.

At just 151cm long and 147cm wide, the GCB is particularly well suited to homes, teaching studios and music rooms where space is an important consideration.

Proudly Made in Kakegawa, Japan

One of the GCB’s most important selling points is its manufacturing heritage.

Unlike its GB1K predecessor, the new GCB is manufactured at Yamaha’s flagship Kakegawa piano factory in Japan, where Yamaha also produces its prestigious GC and CX Series grand pianos.

This world-renowned facility brings together traditional piano-making skills, advanced manufacturing technology and meticulous attention to detail.

From the careful selection of materials and precision assembly through to tone shaping and final finishing, each instrument benefits from Yamaha’s extensive experience in producing exceptional acoustic grand pianos.

For customers seeking a new Japanese-made Yamaha grand piano, the GCB offers a particularly attractive introduction to the range.

Enhanced Acoustic Design with Yamaha’s Tone Collector

The GCB incorporates a number of important acoustic refinements designed to enhance its musical performance.

Among these is Yamaha’s Tone Collector, incorporated into the instrument’s back-post structure.

Working alongside the piano’s three back beams, this design helps efficiently distribute string vibrations throughout the body of the instrument, contributing to its rich resonance and tonal projection.

The GCB also benefits from thicker inner rim laminations, increasing structural rigidity and supporting the piano’s acoustic performance.

These improvements help the GCB produce a remarkably full and expressive sound for an instrument of its compact dimensions.

Whether playing delicate passages, lyrical melodies or more powerful repertoire, the GCB offers the tonal clarity and musical expression associated with Yamaha grand pianos.

Solid Spruce Soundboard

At the heart of the Yamaha GCB is a solid spruce soundboard.

Spruce has long been valued in acoustic piano construction for its excellent resonant properties, helping transform the vibrations of the strings into the rich, natural sound of the instrument.

The GCB also incorporates spruce ribs and an overhanging bass bridge as part of its carefully developed acoustic construction.

Combined with its enhanced rim and back-post design, these components contribute to the piano’s tonal depth, clarity and expressive character.

Responsive C1X-Type Grand Piano Action

The playing experience is equally important as the sound.

The Yamaha GCB features a precision-engineered C1X-type action, providing the responsive touch and control expected from a quality acoustic grand piano.

This improved Japanese action allows pianists to explore subtle changes in dynamics, articulation and musical expression.

From the earliest stages of learning through to more advanced repertoire, the GCB offers an authentic grand piano playing experience that encourages musical development.

For customers upgrading from an upright piano, the responsiveness and control of a genuine grand piano action are among the most rewarding aspects of the instrument.

Designed for Modern Living

The Yamaha GCB has been developed to make grand piano ownership more accessible to customers who may previously have considered a grand piano impractical for their home.

Its compact 151cm cabinet makes it Yamaha’s smallest current acoustic grand piano, while still providing the musical advantages of a genuine grand piano.

The elegant Polished Ebony cabinet offers a timeless appearance that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Practical refinements include a sliding music desk, allowing pianists to adjust its position to suit their playing preference, and a soft-close fallboard for added convenience.

The GCB also features three traditional grand piano pedals:

• Damper pedal: Sustains notes and allows greater musical expression.
• Sostenuto pedal: Sustains selected notes while leaving others unaffected.
• Shift pedal (Una Corda): Changes the tonal character for softer, more delicate playing.

These features make the GCB a versatile instrument for everyday practice, teaching and musical enjoyment.

How Does the Yamaha GCB Compare with the GB1K?

The Yamaha GB1K established itself as a popular compact baby grand piano, offering customers the opportunity to enjoy genuine Yamaha grand piano ownership.

The new GCB represents an important step forward, introducing a series of acoustic and mechanical improvements inspired by Yamaha’s established GC and C Series instruments.

Key developments include:

• Manufacturing at Yamaha’s flagship Kakegawa factory in Japan.
• An enhanced acoustic structure incorporating Yamaha’s Tone Collector.
• Thicker inner rim laminations for increased rigidity and tonal projection.
• A responsive C1X-type grand piano action.
• A practical sliding music desk.
• Membership of Yamaha’s acclaimed GC Series.

These refinements make the GCB an exciting option for customers who were previously considering the GB1K but would welcome the benefits of Yamaha’s latest compact grand piano design.
