Akai Professional MPK mini 4 with improved and new features
As a compact DAW controller, the MPK mini IV from Akai Professional also cuts a fine figure in its fourth Generation version. In addition to the new design, the two handwheels for Pitchbend and modulation catch the eye. The arpeggiator has also been functionally improved and a chord mode and MIDI-out socket have been added. The compact keyboard with 25 velocity-sensitive mini keys has a color OLED display that shows all operations in detail. The integrated arpeggiator now also has pattern, freeze and mutate functions, which greatly increases its usefulness beyond the usual and and down arpeggios. The eight encoders are already preconfigured for many plug-ins; you can of course adapt the controls to your own requirements. Thanks to the encoder design, parameter jumps are now a thing of the past when the controls are operated again. The eight pressure-sensitive MPC pads with RGB lighting can be organized in two banks and are perfect for articulating drums or samples. MPC-typical basic functions such as eg. Note Repeat and Full Level are a useful addition. With the practical Chord Mode, you can play chord sequences that you have previously defined yourself with just one finger. The Scale Mode offers various scales that cover dancefloor-oriented genres as well as more exotic ones from faraway countries. On the back, there is a USB-C port for power supply and data exchange, a socket for a separately available sustain pedal and the MIDI output. The latter is of interest to anyone who wants to play a MIDI expander that does not have a USB interface. The MPK mini IV is fully compatible with DAWs such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Bitwig and Cubase and can therefore be used immediately.
