Crafted for Learning and Performance: Student & Intermediate Flutes

Yamaha designs its student and intermediate flutes with features that help beginners develop proper breath control from the start. For example, the specially shaped lip plate naturally guides airflow, making tone production easier and more consistent.

In addition, Yamaha engineers shape and position the keys with precise dimensions and angles. As a result, players enjoy optimal balance, comfortable hand positioning, and smooth playability—key factors in early success.

Thanks to these thoughtful design choices, Yamaha flutes consistently rank among the world’s best sellers.

CY Headjoint

Featuring a double flare taper and an undercut embouchure hole design for excellent response and a rich tone, the CY headjoint helps beginners quickly learn to produce a beautiful sound. More advanced players will appreciate its quick and consistent response across all registers.

Keys

Yamaha has ergonomically shaped and placed every key to provide a comfortable, natural playing experience. The company also overhauled its manufacturing processes to significantly boost precision. As a result, each flute delivers greater mechanical accuracy and requires fewer readjustments over time.

Pointed Key Arms

A#, F#, and other non-fingered keys feature pointed key arms. This beautiful key design is inspired by traditional European style.

Adjustment Screws

Unique Yamaha screw resistance inserts allow smooth adjustments while preventing gradual loosening of the screws. The screw position has been changed for easier access.

Alignment Marks

Footjoint alignment marks facilitate proper fitting by young players.

Curved Headjoint (FHJ-200U)

An optional curved headjoint makes it easier for smaller players to hold and play the flute. It comes with a convenient carrying case that accommodates both the headjoint and the flute itself.
