It’s a blast from the past
From the glory days. The SG Standard ’61 travels back to the roots of this legendary guitar and presents you with an instrument that’s seen a few stages. Meticulously finished in a satin nitrocellulose coating, and sporting a host of old-school appointments, it boasts a premium vintage character. These include Vintage Deluxe tuning buttons, black control knobs with silver inserts, Lyre engraving on the tailpiece cover and a 5-ply teardrop pickguard.
Vibrato maestro
The centrepiece of the SG Standard ’61 is, you guessed it, the vibrato tailpiece. Forged in a classic style and offering a smooth vibrato action, it adds a new dynamic element to your performance. And thanks to Gibson’s outstanding build quality and TOM bridge, you can expect a solid tuning stability while it’s in use.
The searing sounds of an SG classic…
Vibrant vintage roars. If you’re searching for PAF-like tones with extra edge and attitude, these open core BurstBuckers are for you. Voiced to capture the sonics of those hot rodded ’60s pickups, you’ve got plenty of growl and punch to command, with a bright top end to make your notes really stand out. And thanks to the open core design, they’ll pick up every detail of your strings for a maximum output and full bodied tone.
At the neck is the BurstBucker 61R that has a slightly thicker presence, excellent for fat chords and chunky rhythms. If you’re in need of a little more cut and crunch, then flick over to the bridge position’s 61T for a focused and more biting tone. Selectable through a three way switch and complete with audio taper potentiometers and orange drop capacitors, these offer delicate, authentic sounds that can be shaped to your exact taste.
SG level playability
It’s no secret. You only have to look at an SG to see that they are inviting riff machines, and it’s no different on the SG Standard ’61 Vibrato. Presenting you with the trademark SlimTaper neck and a quality, luscious rosewood fretboard, it’s a surface that’s ready for all manner of riffing. Enjoy a solid grip on the neck profile, as well as plenty of room on the fingerboard for technical playing. And that extends all the way up the 22 frets, with tonnes of room at even the highest scales for showstopping leads and creative ideas.
